Hey Loyal Readers,
I just kind of had a holiday weekend, because my boyfriend's parents came in and that was Thanksgiving for us. So, now that they're gone I can get online and blog to my heart's content. I'll be catching up on my reading and my swatching and writing.
Here's my 2 purple frankens. This first one is a dark blurple glitter. And this one is a medium glowy purple with some glitter stuck in it.
No names, and as far as the recipe, forget it, I just mixed purples for both. And the dark blurple, I started with an old MPJ - sadly, because it broke and I put a ton of thinner in it and completely ruined it. I was sad, I don't know why, but I'm obsessed with having the 3 different versions. I know I got it at 8ty8 Beauty, but lately everything is out of stock there. I have a comparison of the 3 that I had (including the one that I'm looking for except that it is already ruined - I wish I would have gotten it swatched before hand).
Anyway, enough about my rant about my non-holo MPJ
Non-nail related bit:
My first Christmas without a real tree. Here's my solution. Oh my gosh, this smells amazing! And just like a Christmas tree. It's already gone, I used it up very quickly, but it is the best! I will probably need another, although I'm going home for Christmas where there is a real tree, so I can't wait! Also it looks like there's another polish-lover in the family

Posted by Danica | Thursday, December 03, 2009 | purple, shimmer, zara, zoya | 6 comments »Hello Lovely Readers!
I've made the decision to continue posting my purples and see it through. I think everyone will be happy, because I have some pretty great colors coming up! Especially today. I think this is a real treat, because either not many blogs have shown this color or not in awhile anyway. If you only own one Zoya, it might as well be this one. So please stick with me through my purples for December,. I may do some posts with more than one color like the last, but I thought that Zara deserved her own post, look at all the great pictures I took - Enjoy!
The best way to describe it is a light jelly (lilac?) purple packed with gold shimmer. This shimmer is in a league all it's own. What do you think? I have such a hard time describing the colors, especially shimmer, because shimmer is all different. I would almost say this is a dense gold duochrome effect. The gold is not like spread out like little bits of glimmer/shimmer/glitter, but almost even more miniscule shimmer packed in the depths of the purple that shows it's face in daylight
Zoya 'Zara' 3 coats, no toppie

Thanks for coming back or stopping by, obviously my blog has not been my main priority these past few weeks, I have really been trying to focus on school. It will be a lot easier to post when I'm not forced to do these purples, it just wasn't the right month for me to pick to do this. Tuesday is December already (wow) so I'm going to try and cram the rest of my purples in a few posts. Here goes, enjoy the pictures, I'll try and keep commentary short:
OPI 'Do You Lilac It?' Konad M8
I don't even remember when I did this, haha so I'm posting it now, consider this post the land of the lost swatch pictures :)OPI 'Yes I Can-Can'
Not quite purple, and I don't really like this color, I got rid of it. So, here it is in the land of lost swatches.OPI 'Catherine the Grape'
This used to be my signature color, however it's one of my very first purples, I've had this for awhile now, I think it's readily available in the classics collection, but I can't be sure.
I posted two picture of it, two different views. Which would you rather see uploaded to my blog - any preferences? Let me know!OPI 'Louvre Me, Louvre Me Not'
Gorgeous medium pink based purple with a gorgeous monotone shimmer!and a fun marble design. I love doing these, they're so easy and they look so chic in my opinion.
Making you scroll for one of my new favorites
OPI 'Merry Midnight' 3 coats
2 coats can work, but 3 coats just loads it with flakies!
I just love OPI for this color, I wore it for Thanksgiving and it was perfect and I could not stop staring at my hands. Gold flakes (look at that large one on my ring finger nail) and blue and purple glitter and shimmer floating in a gorgeous sea of dark purple! What's not to love, new favorite of mine!Ulta Holiday Exclusive
OPI 'Visions of Sugarplum'
I don't know why it's not "Sugarplums" maybe it was a misprint.
First picture shows an awesome bottle shot (I love that gold coming through on the sides) and how the polish is dense purple fine glitter in an almost black purple base.Second photo - Just gorgeous shimmer! Honestly, this is a breathtaking holiday color. Also, I've worn this once and I applied one coat and it was great! First polish I've ever had to actually do that. But for pictures it didn't look great, so here's two coats.
Zoya 'Audrina'
I'm posting this here, because everyone wanted to know what I considered similar to OPI 'The Violet-ter the Better'. I don't actually own this color, this is my best friends. This swatch is old and both colors look really pink, but trust me they are two gorgeous purple colors that I believe to be similar - If I had to choose OPI is my alltime favorite polish and Zoya has one of the worst formulas, so if you can find 'The Violet-ter the Better' that's what I would choose.I really tried to keep commentary brief, but hey, these are all just amazing polishes (with the exception of Yes I Can-Can) so I had to say something. To be honest, this blog is not as popular as I'd hoped, so what I really want is some honest, useful feedback. I would do a poll, but this gives you an option to answer anyway you see fit.
First off, just to reiterate, does anyone care either way if pics are tall or long, I'm going to maybe start incorporating both, but let me know.
Next, something you really don't like about my blog that I can easily change - you can be anonymous if you'd like.
And of course, something you really do like.
Overall, what's important as a reader? What keeps you coming back or not coming back? Photos, commentary, regularity of posting, non-nail related bits, overall look of blog, ME?
Be honest, be anonymous if you'd like. Thanks!
Coming up:
-Holiday ideas
-Topcoats
-More comparisons
-Hopefully nail art
Happy Polishing!
Oodles of Purple - OPI 'The Violet-ter the Better'
Posted by Danica | Friday, November 20, 2009 | creme, jelly, OPI, purple, The Violet-ter the Better, Trade Secret Exclusive | 5 comments »Hello Lovelies! You know what I'm going to say - I LOVE this purple. I'm so glad I got it, it was a limited edition Trade Secret exclusive. This is 2 coats of 'The Violet-ter the Better'. No topcoat, it's pretty shiney on its own - I love that. It's a strange name, but a gorgeous purple. A not quite bright, pink-purple jelly/creme. It's probably the best formula of any of the polishes I have... oh why do they have to make it exclusive!? Again, another color I don't know what I did without!
What do you think? Does anyone else have this? I may have a dupe for those who don't have it and can't get it...

Hello Lovelies,
I think that every time I post a purple I think "this is one of my favorite polishes"... I think it's safe to say that I love all purples. However, truly this one is amazing. It's from the La Collection de France.
'Parlez-Vous OPI?' 2 coats
This is a beautiful, grayed, smokey creme purple.
What I love most is that this is so "France". It's as close to being fashionable as I'll get... that goes for most of the France collection in my view, I have a few of them. Also, very important to me - there is nothing else quite like this color. For my non-nail related bit:
My boyfriend's new kitten - waking up from a little nap, she's sooo tiny! And here's my family taking a little nap while I play with my nail polish.
I want to know - What is your alltime favorite OPI collection? I think I'm tied between France, Night Brights, and Holiday in Toyland in terms of the amount of good colors in the collection, what do you think?!
OPI - BIG NEWS!
Posted by Danica | Tuesday, November 17, 2009 | Alice in Wonderland, Dell and OPI, Hong Kong, OPI | 6 comments »OPI is really stepping up it's game lately. I really applaud them with the new colors they've come out with. You can see a trend in the past years of the risks they've taken in colors. It used to just be all reds, but then came MPJ and INK and YOU DON'T KNOW JACQUES and HOLIDAY GLOW... I think it's great! Anyway, bla bla bla
I have 3 big announcements, yay!
First- everyone may have already heard - it's readily available on OPI's website.
They've teamed up with Dell to make computers match some of their nail polish colors. I just wish I would have waited a few months to buy my new laptop. I don't know what color I would have chosen though, maybe Holiday Glow, that looks beautiful! Only downside - it looks like it's about $85 to add it to a computer.
Second- It seems to me maybe OPI is taking after China Glaze's Wiard of Oo Aahz collection with this, but I don't care, because like I said I LOVE OPI!
According to the Swedish blog P'ssion a limited edition collection will be coming out January/February 2010.
Alice in Wonderland just in time to wear to Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland with Johnny Depp which comes out March 5, 2010 according to IMDB.
All photos and descriptions courtesy of P'ssion.

I believe these can be clicked on to make bigger - Check the sparkle in the blue and purple.
- Off with Her Red! – A glowing, empowering hot red
The Red Queen: Cruel Ruler Of The Land, she cuts off the heads of those who disagree with her. She would rather be feared than loved. - Absolutely Alice - An absolutely amazing blue glitter
Alice Kingsley: Beautiful but slightly off-kilter, sees the world differently than most. In the Rabbit Hole, she seeks to write her own destiny. - Mad as a Hatter – A madly marvelous black-multi glitter
The Mad Hatter: Formerly the White Queen's hat. Now, he is part of the Underland Resistance and driven to madness by guilt. - Thanks So Muchness! - For this “much-have” red shimmer
And lastly ...: As if the tale was not adventurous enough, one more shade to color your own Underland over and over.
Third - Again from P'ssion another new collection!
Also, it seems in January/February 2010 Hong Kong Collection is coming!
All photos courtesy of P'ssion.

Bling Dynasty --Red My Fortune Cookie -- Hot & Spicy.
Dim Sum Plum -- Jade is the New Black -- Suzi Says Feng Shui.
A Good Man-darin is Hard to Find -- Lucky Lucky Lavender -- Meet Me on the Star Ferry.
Panda-monium Pink -- Pearl of Wisdom -- I'm Chop-Ssticking to My Story.
OPI promotion pictures have a reputation to be totally off, but we'll see - I don't see any ground breaking colors here, maybe 'Suzi Says Feng Shui' and 'I'm Chop-Ssticking To My Story' (love that name!)
What do you readers think? Is anyone getting a Dell computer? Does anyone see any exciting colors in these collections (keeping in mind they may be totally different!) I love Tim Burton and Johnny Depp isn't bad - you can't have a Tim Burton movie without him it seems.

Hello Lovelies!
Another favorite light purple from OPI
'Do You Lilac It?' 2 coats
This is from the Brights Collection.
My non-nail related bit:
I have these beautiful leaves outside my house for some reason I really just think they're pretty. And now in the fall they're becoming this red color. On the tree they kind of look Christmasy (green leaves and red leaves)I consider this my "signature" color. I have some eyeliner that matches, and the scarf from yesterday... in general it's just so ME. Does anyone else feel connected to a polish like me and 'Do You Lilac It?'? Anybody else have anything from the Brights Collection that is a must have?
Oodles of Purple - OPI DS 'Amethyst'
Posted by Danica | Monday, November 16, 2009 | Amethyst, Dark Purple, DS, holo, OPI | 4 comments »Hello Lovelies!
We are continuing Purple Month with OPI.
DS 'Amethyst' 2 coats
It's a beautiful soft lilac purple with of course a ton of holo. I think it was in the first batch of DS, or maybe the second.
And here's 'Amethyst' over other colors, to make it a bit darker
Left to right:
OPI 'My Private Jet'
Sally Hanson Salon 'Plum It'
Purple unnamed franken
OPI 'Parlez-Vous OPI?'
For my non-nail related bit:
Here is my absolute favorite scarf. I got it in SF on Haight St. While taking the picture Pirate really wanted to be in it, but I couldn't get it focused in time before he ran away.
So I'm really thinking about getting some new DS. What are your favorites? I know Mystery looks good and Royal too. Does this look nice layered or alone?
Oodles of Purple - L.A. Girl Flare - Dark Purple
Posted by Danica | Sunday, November 15, 2009 | collection, Dark Purple, Flare, glitter, L.A. Girl, purple, shimmer | 2 comments »Hello Lovelies!
I have enough purple polishes for the whole month, but it looks like it might spill over, I'm going to try to not let that happen, so here we go!L.A. Girl FLARE 'Dark Purple' or according to Steph's Closet -- 'Midnight Diva'
2 coats
Some of you may know... L.A. Girl can be hard to find or hard to find names for. I got this at my local Forever 21 for $2.80, and all it says on the back is Dark Purple F21237.
Steph lists both the color and the names that they have been labeled under, and Dark Purple may be the same as 'Midnight Diva.'
As you can see this is not how I typically pose my hands, but this I think is the best shot of the color.
This is misleading though, because it's hardly blue unless in the shade. Tomorrow hopefully I can get some sun pics if it's still in good shape! In normal lighting it's a very beautiful dark purple. It's everything you would want purple to be - Glowing, deep, multi shimmered, a little vampy... the list goes on. I don't know how I've lived without this color for so long.
Here's what's coming up, I'm so excited for my recent HAUL.I know, I know, this picture is so overexposed, once again I took this picture at night, however this is just a preview anyway. Please please stay tuned to see these colors, they're very beautiful colors all of them!
No real non-nail related thing, but this is something I'm so so happy about.
Here's some pictures of my nailpolish collection BEFORE: (make pictures bigger if you dare)
And AFTER: I don't know what took me so long to do this! I got this at Wal Mart for around $13 and found some wheels to put on (because I like having my polish handy in any room) and I put some drawer liners in it, which was the best idea! When the polishes are square or lieing down, they don't go anywhere when you open the drawers! Yay, it makes my collection look so small, but there's ROOM now, and that box was pathetic! Money very well spent.
I'd like to hear about others experiences with L.A. Girl. I have another one, but they are so inexpensive, but kind of hard to find the colors you want. Who's found what? What are the other great colors? Where can I find the Rockstar collection in stores?
Oodles of Purple - New Brand! Full Review!
Posted by Danica | Thursday, November 12, 2009 | CQ, creme, Lilac, pink, purple, review | 3 comments »
Hello Readers,
I went to Wal Mart to reward myself with some really inexpensive nail polish. I was going to get a medium brown/pink Pure Ice. However, I was also looking for makeup, so I was looking around and I came across CQ by Scherer's (which makes 'Petites' and polish remover at Wal Mart). I'm not sure if anyone else has bought this, and I figured not many people, so I thought I'd do a nice review. So sit back and get ready for a full review of the color I picked out.
~ The first picture shows the brush. It's very small, but not impossible and out of control. Nice and stiff and long, so it works.
~The second picture is just to show the shimmer that can't be seen in store. In fact, it's very subtle. I thought it was a creme, but on the nail it's kind of sheer/creme/shimmer(ish).
~ So here's the color! CQ 'Lilac'
This is a base coat and 3 coats of color, no topcoat. I think 3 coats is necessary, like I said, it's sheer! I can't say I know of any color like it. It's very light and work-friendly. Formula was easy; kind of thin and watery - not so bad that it's messy, but enough that 3 coats is necessary. I like it.
Colors - not many to choose from, your basic reds, a few really dark colors, white, and every shade of light pink you can think of. Pretty and basic (note the name!) Don't go looking for Tiffany's Blue or black with red glitter - just simple colors. They do have a charcoal and dark blue that's pretty cool. I like Pure Ice colors better.
Formula - not bad! For a cheap Wal Mart polish, this kind of surprised me. If you like Pure Ice, you will probably like this. The formula is easy to manage, but still needs 3 coats, which I am willing to do to save the money and cheer up my day with an inexpensive polish. Also, it dried rather quickly.
Value - no doubt, top notch! .4 ounces for $1.94. Save money by simple names and simple bottle. (This could have been 'Berry Berry Purple' in a fancy "professional lacquer" bottle with an extra .1 ounces, and a formula that
goes on in 2 coats instead of a quick 3 for $9). Easy to get too, I don't need to make a trip to Ulta or the mall, just go to Wal Mart which is open 24/7.
So check out their website here. Don't count on the color swatches they have, because they are worse than most polish and makeup swatches on sites. They also have some pretty cool eyeshadows, that are mostly normally priced, around $4. They have shadow sponge-ons (Shadow Dip) which I like. If you look online, don't count on that purple actually being purple, it's like maroon. They also have these eyeshadow/eyeliner duos (Duetto Eye Shadow and Liner). I looked at the purple, but the liner on the other side was an ugly black, not purple. I liked the shadow crayon though, very smooth (Yeh, I tried it on in the store - it's Wal Mart whatever!) And single, double, and triple shadows.
I also got this at Wal Mart:
I don't have much makeup, so I'm excited to try it out.
Oodles of Purple - Pure Ice 'Busted'
Posted by Danica | Wednesday, November 11, 2009 | busted, pure ice, purple, shimmer | 7 comments »Hello Readers,
I have been sick and busy lately, so sorry for the lack of posts. This will be short, but hopefully soon I can be back to my full blogging capabilities.
This is 2 coats of Pure Ice 'Busted'. This was hard for me to do by putting it on bare nails, however I wanted everyone to see its true color, but as you can imagine it's gorgeous over another color. I like putting it over a purple just for a change or if the color is drab on its own.
It's a purple shimmer that has tendencies to go green and gold as well
